This time of year most Americans are focused on New Year’s Resolutions. It is an excellent time to regroup and refocus. Many review their last year and figure out what worked, what didn’t, and how to improve. Nothing wrong with that at all! Here is a list of the ten most common resolutions:

Despite good intentions, many fail to follow through.

2023 should be the year you decide to have a better maintenance program for your home. Here are some roof resolutions and how to follow through with them.

Much like personal reflection and examination, your roof needs regular examination. How do you know what is going on up there unless it is inspected? You don’t need to do this yourself, but rather contact a trusted roofing contractor to inspect your roof. They are knowledgeable about what to look for and can see any future issues that may arise. Here are some things they will look for:

While they are often forgotten, gutters are an important part of your roofing system. They keep water from pooling on your roof and force it away from your siding and foundation. You are able to check the conditions of your gutters by safely climbing on a ladder with the help of a friend. Again, if you are having concerns, ask your roofer to inspect the gutter system.

Overgrown trees can damage your roof during a major storm. Secondly, they could rub or scrape on the roofing material and create damage and holes. Needles, leaves, and branches could clog up the gutter system. Hire a professional company to trim back any overhanging branches and trees to prevent future damage to your roof.

Critters love to find little holes and raise a family there. Especially in your gutter system! Remove debris that collects on the rooftop to prevent them from living there. If you have shingles, algae, mold, and moss can grow over time. Again, ask about how to remove and have your roof cleaned during the inspection.

Snow and ice buildup can create ice dams which, in turn, will create even more problems with your roofing system. The added weight of snow and ice may be more than the frame of your home can handle. Using a snow rake or heated cables are excellent ways to keep the snow minimal on the roof.
